Soda Springs Trail #306

SUMMARY: 5.4k feet to 6.3k feet, 4.3 miles

DESCRIPTION: Soda Springs Trail follows along the Rio Grande, and then climbs the escarpment for splendid views of White Rock and the Pecos Wilderness.

The trail is part of an alternate (emergency) route on the Northern New Mexico Loop.

GETTING THERE: Old Highway 77, Buckman Road, ends right at the Rio Grande. When you can’t go any farther or your feet will get wet, the raw water lift station will be on your left. There is a two track on the SE side of the lift station that will take you to a large parking area on the SW side of the station. The trail starts at the far end of the parking area near a locked gate.

CONDITIONS: The trail is in reasonably good shape along the river, and needs some tread and rock work and lopping on the climb up to the mesa.

NMVFO has done work on this trail:

Soda Springs Trail #306 Backpack (Santa Fe NF)
