SUMMARY: 5.7k feet to 6.6k feet, 12.1 miles
DESCRIPTION: Trail 365, known as the Foothills Trail, is the longest trail on the western side of the Sandia Mountains. It stretches from the Tram Terminal south almost to Interstate 40, with a 1-mile gap between the Embudito Trailhead and another trailhead at the end of Comanche Road (through which one can follow streets through the Glenwood Hills Community). Trail 365 connects with and parallels numerous other trails in the Sandia Ranger District of the Cibola National Forest and Albuquerque’s Open Space (many of which have been worked on by NMVFO over the years). The northern half of Trail 365 goes mostly through grassland with Pinons and Junipers, and the southern half is in a more arid environment with lots of bushes and cactuses.
GETTING THERE:
Several trailheads can access the trail. For the Embudo Trailhead, drive to the far eastern end of Indian School Road NE.
For the southern trailhead, turn onto Comanche from Tramway and head east to the end, about 0.5 miles.
The northern trailhead on is on Tramway Rd off of Tramway Blvd, and has a parking fee.
CONDITIONS: The trail is mostly in good condition, with some rugged terrain immediately south of the Tram and again south of Embudo Canyon.
NMVFO has done work near this trail:
