CANCELED BY USFS – Valle Vidal Wetland Restoration (Carson NF)

July 23, 2022 @ 8:00 AM - July 24, 2022 @ 12:00 PM

Contact Leader(s): Jenny Blackmore, j.blackmore@nmvfo.org with any questions.

Description: Come join us as we partner with Albuquerque Wildlife Federation to help restore wetlands in Ring Place Meadow in the beautiful Valle Vidal, on the Questa Ranger District not far from the Colorado border. From the USFS website: “The Valle Vidal (The Valley of Life) unit of the Carson National Forest was donated to the People of the United States by the Pennzoil Company in 1982. This lush mountain basin, located in the heart of New Mexico’s Sangre de Cristo Mountains, is home to a magnificent elk herd and other abundant wildlife. The vistas of high peaks, forests, and alpine meadows are breathtaking. With elevations of 7,700-12,584 feet, the plant life is abundant and varied.”

We’ll camp (dispersed camping) in the meadow on Friday and Saturday nights; volunteers are welcome to arrive on Saturday morning if preferred. Meals will be done a little differently from usual: breakfast will be provided on Saturday morning (veggie burritos), and dinner “mains” (meat and veggie options) on Saturday evening. Volunteers are asked to bring a potluck side dish for Saturday dinner, as well as their own lunches, snacks and Sunday breakfast, plus Friday dinner if applicable. Please bring water for camping, and your own dishes, cup and silverware.

We’ll be building rock structures in streams, so come prepared to get wet! A change of shoes for camp is highly recommended. Required while working: long pants, sturdy boots, eye protection (sunglasses), work gloves. Please also bring a daypack, hat, rainwear, sunblock, snacks and lunch, and plenty of water during the day.

You can sign up below until Sunday, July 17. One person per signup. Hope to see you there!

Group Size: 15
