Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge 4th Birthday Celebration

September 24, 2016

Contact Leader(s): Chris Fritzsche, 505-504-3768, fritzsche.christopher@gmail.com with any questions.

Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge (VDONWR), the Southwest’s first urban refuge will serve as an urban oasis for both wildlife and people on 570 acres of a former dairy farm just five miles south of downtown Albuquerque on the Rio Grande.  We’ve been lending a hand since the since it was officially named in 2014!  Please, come out on Saturday, 24 September and celebrate the birthday of one of our partners and represent the NMVFO.  Be prepared for quite a crowd. Almost 600 people from the local community attended our event last year, and we hope to add another 200 attendees this year.

Anyone wishing to help with set-up, please arrive at 9:15 am.  Anyone wanting to represent the NMVFO, come anytime between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm.  We can expect food, live music, interactive partner booths, hayrides, tours, and FREE CAKE! in celebration of the Refuge’s 4th Birthday!  No registration is required, but if you want to let me know you’re coming email or call me (Chris), the project leader, fritzsche.christopher@gmail.com or (505) 504-3768.  Bring what you think you need… money is a great idea as last year there were a few food trucks.  More info at https://www.fws.gov/refuge/Valle_de_Oro/ or at through Friends of Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge website at http://friendsofvalledeoro.wildapricot.org/.

If you come by I-25 get off on the Rio Bravo exit and go west, when you come to 2nd Street head south on 2nd Street.  When the road turns do not follow it – continue on the straight, older road.  VDONWR is located at 7851 2nd Street SW, look for the black mail box on right hand side of the road.
