Contact Leader(s): Russ Garland, r.garland@nmvfo.org; Dan Potter, d.potter@nmvfo.org with any questions.
RESULTS: NMVFO volunteers improved a one-mile loop trail at the New Mexico Land Conservancy’s Petchesky Conservation Center and removed 100 contractor’s bags worth of invasive thistle.
Description: Join NMVFO for a trail-improvement project with a new partner, the New Mexico Land Conservancy. We will meet at the organization’s headquarters at 5430 S. Richards Ave., Santa Fe, at 9 AM and work until around 4 PM.
The New Mexico Land Conservancy is a leading New Mexico land trust, with nearly 800,000 acres of land conserved within the state. While many of these lands are not open to the public, their headquarters site is, including an interpretive public trail that NMVFO will be working on.
Work: Our focus is on a one-mile loop trail. Work will include removing invasive thistle, grading the trail, improving drainage and some lopping.
Food/Water: Volunteers should bring their own snacks as well as plenty of water. Lunch will be provided.
Tools/Equipment/Clothing: NMVFO will supply all tools. Volunteers should wear long sleeved shirts and long pants, eye protection/sunglasses, sturdy leather gloves and boots, and a day pack.
