Galisteo Basin Preserve

April 29, 2023 @ 9:00 AM - 1:30 PM

Contact Leader(s): Dan Potter, d.potter@nmvfo.org with any questions.

Description: NMVFO will return to work with the Commonweal Conservancy, the nonprofit owner of the 6,000-acre Galisteo Basin Preserve in central Santa Fe County, removing barbed wire fencing at the GBP which is impeding wildlife flows and migration corridors in the Basin. After a brief workshop to learn safe and efficient ways to dismantle barbed wire fences, volunteers will spend the rest of the day removing several fences on the preserve. Volunteers should wear long sleeved shirts and long pants, and bring eye protection/sunglasses, leather gloves, a day pack and water. Additionally, if any volunteers have fencing pliers (linesmen pliers work well) please bring them. Commonweal, who is running the workshop, will provide a couple T-post pullers, but if you happen to have one, please bring it. Volunteers will meet at GBP’s Cottonwood Trailhead at 9:00 AM.
