Emory Pass South (Gila NF)
November 13, 2021 @ 9:00 AM - November 14, 2021 @ 4:00 PM

Contact Leader(s): Jenny Blackmore, j.blackmore@nmvfo.org with any questions.
RESULTS: Six NMVFO volunteers made tread improvements along 1.5 miles of the Black Range Crest Trail #79 south of Emory Pass in the Gila NF, partnering with volunteers from the Gila Chapter of the Back Country Horsemen who removed logs and brushed back encroaching vegetation on the Crest Trail and trail #796 nearby.
Description: Come join us at beautiful Emory Pass in the Gila as we partner with the Back Country Horsemen of NM, Gila Chapter, for trail maintenance on Crest Trail #79, south of the pass. Volunteers have the option of working one or both days over the weekend of November 13-14. Those who work both days are encouraged to camp with the group at the nearby Iron Creek Campground. Note that on this project volunteers will supply all of their own food. The campground has pit toilets but no water. Tent sites are available and there is space in the parking area for RV’s. As a reminder, pets are not allowed on NMVFO projects.
We will mainly be doing tread work, with some brushing and lopping thrown in. We could be hiking up to 1.5 miles to reach the work site(s) each day. Tools and hard hats will be provided. For work during the day, please bring a day pack with sunblock, rain gear, clothing layers, lunch, snacks, and plenty of water. Work gloves, long pants, long sleeves, boots and eye protection (sunglasses) are required. For camping, bring a warm sleeping bag; it will be cold! Any questions, feel free to contact the project leader, Jenny B. Hope you can join us!
