NMVFO 2023-2024 Projects Map

NMVFO organizes between 25 and 35 projects per year. Most of these consist of trail-maintenance efforts focused on public lands. We also “scout” public-land trails and evaluate their maintenance needs. We conduct habitat restoration projects, frequently focused on watershed health. Finally, we conduct “clean-up” projects on public lands, including fishing areas, campgrounds, roadways, and the like.

To better inform the public, land managers, partner organizations and our own membership about our work, we have combined all our 2023 and 2024 projects onto a single CalTopo map, visible in the window below. Over time, we will be updating this map as new projects are completed by NMVFO.

In the map window below, NMVFO projects can be seen as green or yellow lines and boxes. To zoom into an area of interest, you can use your mouse wheel or the “+” and ”-” tabs at the upper left in the window. Green solid lines indicate completed NMVFO projects, in which a trail or area has received work in 2023. Yellow dotted lines indicate trails that have been evaluated or “scouted” by NMVFO for future work.

Additional specific and detailed information on our projects is available by clicking the “Open in CalTopo” tab in the upper left of the map window. This will cause a larger version of the map to open under a separate tab in your browser. You will then see a column to the left of the map that contains the map key. Click on any project listed in that column, and the map will immediately zoom to that project. A text field will also appear, describing what work NMVFO did there and when it was done. You can also access this information by using your mouse to move around the map and clicking directly on a green (projects) or yellow (trail scouting evaluation) objects on the map.

Some viewers may want to change how the map is displayed. To do this, use the column to the right of the map to add or delete options, change base layers, or modify a diverse set of other map data. Simply check the appropriate box(es) to have that data appear on the map.

Finally, please note that this map is not a trail guide. Rather, it is specifically intended as a report of trail conditions that we have evaluated or worked on this year. For trail guide information, please refer to the following partial listing:
