DESCRIPTION:RESULTS: 18 volunteers constructed over a mile of new trail along the south rim of San Lorenzo Canyon\, while camping at the nearby cottonwood grove.\n\n\n\n	\n		\n			\n				\n			\n		\n		\n			\n				\n			\n		\n		\n			\n				\n			\n		\n		\n			\n				\n			\n		\n		\n			\n				\n			\n		\n		\n			\n				\n			\n		\n\n	 \n	\n	Show More\n\n\n\nPHOTO ALBUM LINK \n\nDescription: Come join us as we build new trail and convert user trail for 2 miles on BLM land along scenic San Lorenzo Canyon outside of Socorro NM. The drive to the camping area (Google Maps does not understand the canyon\, so we will flag the route.) is on 5 miles of dirt road with intermittent loose sand\, normally passable in passenger cars with sufficient care. \nYou are welcome to join us on Friday evening for car-camping– bring your own dinner. Saturday breakfast and dinner and Sunday breakfast will be provided by NMVFO cooks. Bring your own pack lunches for Saturday and Sunday. If you live nearby and do not wish to car-camp\, that is fine — just let the project leader know. \nDifficulty:  Pulaskis \nGroup Size: 24 \nCurrent Covid-19 protocols will be observed. DESCRIPTION:RESULTS: Twenty NMVFO volunteers and three Bernalillo County Open Space personnel completed nearly 200 feet of tread improvements along .6 mile of trail\, brushed back foliage along 3/4 mile\, and built 10 drainage structures and a retaining wall at Carlito Springs Open Space. \n\n\n	\n		\n			\n				\n			\n		\n		\n			\n				\n			\n		\n		\n			\n				\n			\n		\n		\n			\n				\n			\n		\n		\n			\n				\n			\n		\n		\n			\n				\n			\n		\n\n	 \n	\n	Show More\n\n\n\nPHOTO ALBUM LINK \n\nDescription: Come join us on a Wednesday project at BernCo’s Carlito Springs Open Space. The property is currently closed to the public until Spring 2022\, so this will be a fun opportunity to have the trail to ourselves. We’ll meet there at 9:00 AM (exact location TBD) and hike in with tools ~3/4 mile to our work site(s). We’ll stop for lunch around noon and begin our hike out around 2:00 PM. Tasks for the day will include tread repair and building a crib wall. Required: work gloves\, eye protection (sunglasses)\, boots and long pants. DESCRIPTION:RESULTS: Six NMVFO volunteers made tread improvements along 1.5 miles of the Black Range Crest Trail #79 south of Emory Pass in the Gila NF\, partnering with volunteers from the Gila Chapter of the Back Country Horsemen who removed logs and brushed back encroaching vegetation on the Crest Trail and trail #796 nearby.\n\n\n\n	\n		\n			\n				\n			\n		\n		\n			\n				\n			\n		\n		\n			\n				\n			\n		\n		\n			\n				\n			\n		\n		\n			\n				\n			\n		\n		\n			\n				\n			\n		\n\n	 \n	\n	Show More\n\n\n\nPHOTO ALBUM LINK \n\nDescription: Come join us at beautiful Emory Pass in the Gila as we partner with the Back Country Horsemen of NM\, Gila Chapter\, for trail maintenance on Crest Trail #79\, south of the pass. Volunteers have the option of working one or both days over the weekend of November 13-14. Those who work both days are encouraged to camp with the group at the nearby Iron Creek Campground. Note that on this project volunteers will supply all of their own food. The campground has pit toilets but no water. Tent sites are available and there is space in the parking area for RV’s. As a reminder\, pets are not allowed on NMVFO projects. \nWe will mainly be doing tread work\, with some brushing and lopping thrown in. We could be hiking up to 1.5 miles to reach the work site(s) each day. Tools and hard hats will be provided. For work during the day\, please bring a day pack with sunblock\, rain gear\, clothing layers\, lunch\, snacks\, and plenty of water. Work gloves\, long pants\, long sleeves\, boots and eye protection (sunglasses) are required.
