SUMMARY:Cleanup in the Jemez (Jemez RD)
DESCRIPTION:RESULTS: In partnership with NM Outdoor Recreation Division\, 25 NMVFO volunteers and one USFS staff member drove along FS Road 376 in the Jemez\, stopping at pullouts to remove litter from dispersed campsites and fishing spots. Two large truck beds of trash were removed!\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n	\n	Show More\n\n\n\nPHOTO ALBUM LINK \n\nDescription: Come join us as we partner with the ORD on a post-Labor Day cleanup along scenic FS Road 376 and the Rio Cebolla in the Jemez Ranger District. Vehicles will drive and “leapfrog” each other\, stopping at dispersed campsites and fishing spots to remove litter after the holiday weekend. The section of 376 that we’ll be on is a dirt road\, approximately 18 miles in length\, washboarded in areas but suitable for all vehicles. Gloves\, garbage bags and litter grabbers will be provided. We’ll meet at 8:00 AM at the intersection of Hwy 4 and NM 485 to sign waivers and break into two groups. A small group will drive to the southwest end of the cleanup area\, about 5 miles north of the Gilman Tunnels\, and leapfrog northeast from there. Meanwhile the second\, larger group will caravan north through Jemez Springs and past the San Antonio Campground to begin where FS 376 crosses NM 126\, and leapfrog southwest from there. The plan is to work until the two groups meet. Please bring a full tank of gas\, lunch\, water and snacks\, hat and sunblock\, and come prepared for the possibility of rain.\nYou can sign up below until Thursday\, September 9. Thanks for volunteering to help in the Jemez!\nDifficulty: \nGroup Size: 25\nFor more information: If this is your first NMVFO project\, you can find more information about difficulty ratings and what to expect at our Volunteer FAQ’s\, or email the project leader.\nPlease read our volunteer guidelines before signing up for this project.

SUMMARY:Ox Canyon Trail (Mountainair RD)
DESCRIPTION:RESULTS: On Sept 18th\, 2021 seven volunteers cleared over 70 trees from Ox Canyon in the southern Manzanos.\n \n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n	\n	Show More\n\n\n\nPHOTO ALBUM LINK \n\n  \n  \nDescription: The work will be mostly cutting trees that have fallen on the trail. The project will require an 8-mile round trip hike with 2000 feet of elevation gain. We will walk up Ox Canyon and then north on Manzano Crest Trail. We will split into 2 groups\, so some people will not need to hike the whole distance. \nCamping will be available at the Ox Canyon Trailhead Friday the 17th\, and volunteers are welcome to stay and camp Saturday night after the project ends. This is just a large parking area with NO facilities (no bathrooms\, no water). The final 5 miles is on a dirt road that is fine for passenger cars. NMVFO will provide breakfast on Saturday. Please bring your own food and water for the trail and maybe a little extra water for the campsite. \nDifficulty: \nGroup Size: 20 \nFor more information: If this is your first NMVFO project\, you can find more information about difficulty ratings and what to expect at our Volunteer FAQ’s\, or email the project leader. \nPlease read our volunteer guidelines before signing up for this project. \nSign Up
